Kenatec is live

The site is published at kenatec.com, with five working calculators: O-ring glands, DIN 471 and 472 retaining rings, hex socket screws, the plate puller and ISO 10243 die springs.

Two of them produce files for CAD — the gland profile as DXF and the plate puller assembly as STEP, built right in the browser, with no server in between.

The rule that defines the site

No engineering data is published unless it has been checked or derived. Where the source couldn't be verified, either the value stays an input field, or the page warns that it must be checked before machining.

This isn't rhetoric. A wrong part number makes someone buy the wrong part, and a wrong dimension becomes tooling machined out of spec. Saying "I don't know" on a web page is cheaper than fixing an insert.

What that rule cost, in practice

Die springs. The Bordignon catalogue lists 647 springs, and the spring rate in N/mm of each one seemed not to exist as text in the PDF. I went as far as publishing here that the data had been converted to vector graphics during layout. That was wrong: the catalogue mixes two families of fonts, and my reader couldn't read the hexadecimal strings of CID fonts — the cells vanished without any error. Once fixed, all 647 rows came out whole, and each one had to satisfy rate × deflection = load at all three service levels before it got in.

Retaining rings. Nine sizes in the DIN 471 and 472 tables differ between sources. They weren't discarded, nor picked by taste: they appear flagged, with both values, the moment you select that size.

O-rings. The site's AS568 table was cross-checked against the DL Seals catalogue: 338 of the 367 sizes agree within the ring's own tolerance. The 29 that differ by more than that are flagged on screen. And the gland depth calculated here agrees with the manufacturer's published value within 0.25 mm across the whole range — which is what justifies trusting the calculation outside the tabulated cross-sections.

What's next

Mold cooling, shrinkage and dimensions, clamping force. More 3D models to download and Solid Edge tutorials in the wiki.

If you find a wrong number here, that's a defect, not a detail. The site is only worth something as long as it can be trusted.
